The new Pilot packs a more powerful engine in the form of a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6, putting out 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough performance to give the SUV an impressive towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. The motor now pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission featuring shift-by-wire technology and a manual mode with paddle shifters for added engagement.
Honda’s second-generation Intelligent Variable Torque Management (i-VTM4) all-wheel drive system is available with every trim and features up to seven drive modes, including snow, sand, trail, and tow, that will optimize performance and traction in a variety of environments.
TrailSport Model
Adventurers and off-road enthusiasts will find themselves opting for the Pilot’s TrailSport trim, which is specially equipped for the most demanding excursions. In addition to coming standard with i-VTM4, the TrailSport features the remarkable Trail Torque Logic system, capable of diverting up to 70% of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels. This helps ensure that the vehicle remains unhindered by deep ruts and rocky trail sections.
TrailSport models also feature all-season floor mats, exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels finished in Shark Gray, and extremely grippy all-terrain tires.
Interior
While there may be harsh terrain and weather outside, the Pilot stays nice and comfortable inside thanks to its spacious three-row seating that can accommodate up to eight passengers. Bringing more versatility to the cabin is a new, stowable second-row center seat that easily fits into a storage compartment within the floor. Buyers can also equip their Pilot with extra-supportive second-row captain’s chairs.
As for amenities, the Pilot is generous with its offerings, including tri-zone automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat with lumbar support, hidden storage well, heated seats, and much more.
