The air-cooled and all-alloy composition of the engine was also a simple but powerful technological innovation of the time. Four-speed all-synchro transmission and rack-and-pinion steering also represented Honda's increasing penchant for progressive mechanical tech. When paired with the compact two-box design physique, this engine lent a pleasingly dynamic drive that could top out at 77 MPH. The small but mighty physique could also keep fuel economy worries at bay with its 30-plus MPG of fuel efficiency. And that ultra-efficient starting price of $1,300 was equally enticing.
